A smart approach to combine low power consumption and costs with high performance.
Satisfying the need - the need for speed.
MIMAX Project
The concept of MIMAX was evaluated and tested using an integrated testbed with the developed algorithms and antennas. Find more information about the assembled system, the testbed, and the performance results here. It describes the measurement and evaluation campaigns in low mobility and nomadic indoor environments.
MIMAX is an European Union funded project within the 7th Framework programme that develops smart radio access in wireless communication networks. Because mobile wireless communication represents a rapidly growing market segment, existing network infrastructures are not able to tackle the increased amount of data and users in the near future. Therefore, innovative and novel concepts to overcome these limits are needed. In this context, MIMAX develops a smart MIMO transceiver in state-of-the-art silicon technologies that allows a significant improvement concerning the relation between performance at the one hand and power consumption and costs at the other hand.
The project has started in January 2008 and is ending in December 2010. Six partners from industry, research institutes and universities from four different European countries are involved in the development. The partners bring profound expertise into the project and the industrial end-users from different countries open a significantly large business potential for MIMAX, which will concentrate on Wi-Fi application at 5 GHz.
In October 2008 MIMAX received the EEEfCOM Innovation Award. GEROTRON COMMUNICATION GmbH annually awards and promots innovative research and developments in information technologies and electronics.
Founded in 2002 in collaboration with the industrial sponsors Agilent Technologies and Rohde&Schwarz, the Innovation Award aims at promoting new ideas, inventions and developments for communication technologies and at supporting award winners to successfully realize their concepts.
In 2008, MIMAX received the first price for its innovative research and development in the area of smart antenna systems. The price was awarded during the RadioTecC in Berlin. Find more information about the ceremony ín the press section.
